Fierce Club Mafia channeling Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring” @ The Pent House

With the summer movie season coming up, I’m pretty sure that many of you are quite stoked about seeing a handful of films for this year’s stellar lineup. While most of us are sure to gravitate towards the big blockbuster flicks, there are those small indie productions that are also worth watching. And one of these deliciously juicy gems that I am personally looking forward to seeing is director Sofia Coppola‘s intriguing take on the infamous burglaries of several Hollywood celebrities a few years back.

I am, of course, talking about “The Bling Ring”.

Centered on a group of privileged and fame-obsessed teenagers living in Los Angeles, the story is based on the real -life events that chronicled the heists of the titular Bling Ring stealing priceless valuables from some big-name stars that included the likes of Paris Hilton (of which the hotel heiress makes a cameo appearance in the movie), Orlando Bloom, Megan Fox, and Lindsay Lohan.

The marketing for Coppola’s film is unsurprisingly headlined by “Harry Potter” alumna, Emma Watson—even though she is only playing a supporting character in the movie. While it makes sense to promote the movie with Watson’s star power to lure in the crowds, I’m banking on the performances of the newcomers—Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, Taissa Farmiga, and Claire Julien—to bring their A-game. The trailer for the film definitely has the hallmarks of Sofia Coppola’s directorial style, with emphasis on eye-candy cinematography paired with a hip and trendy soundtrack (making excellent use of “212” by Azealia Banks and “Crown on the Ground” by Sleigh Bells).

If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, then check it out below so you may be compelled to give this dishy film a chance to give your summer movie viewing a bit of dangerous glamour.

Suffice to say, when I shared the trailer and the general story of the movie to my friends, they were quite amused and convinced to put this one on their must-see playlist for the summer season. We could literally not stop making references to Emma Watson’s hilariously spot-on rich bitch lines from the trailer in our conversations (“Let’s go to Paris’s. I wanna rob!”), and let me tell you—it was glorious!

We recently went clubbing last weekend and ultimately, we channeled our inner Bling Ring (dubbing ourselves as the Fierce Club Mafia) as we hit up the party scene in our fabulous city in the form of The Pent House. But unlike the characters of the Bling Ring, we had fun sans the criminal activities that landed most of them in jail. Obviously, we aren’t a bunch of bored rich kids stupid enough to pull off such shenanigans.

I leave you now with some exclusive photos from our wild night out clubbing (check me out in the neon-bright citrus ensemble!), and I hope that you too will catch “The Bling Ring” when it hits your local theaters this June.

Smoke it up!
