Childhood nostalgia and modern beauty come together for one awesome event.
I’m pretty sure that most beauty and makeup fanatics have already heard about the latest limited-edition line of M.A.C. Cosmetics. This time around, the always hip and trendy megabrand has tapped into the annals of childhood comics and has fashioned a makeup collection based on two iconic characters from the Archie Comics universe—Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge.
These two fierce and sassy best frenemies who are constantly competing for the affections of flame-haired male protagonist, Archie Andrews, are now the focus of M.A.C for their current limited edition line following their previous outing with another comic book icon, Wonder Woman. Fortunately enough, the brand’s retail outlet in Cebu City prepared an exclusive launch where VIP guests and media personalities (including moi!) were present to witness the glamorous event held at the Activity Center of Ayala Malls Cebu.
I was so excited to be at the event given that my best friend, Ridge, was one of the makeup artists who was personally requested by the M.A.C. team to pitch in for the launch and give beauty makeovers to the city’s fabulous stylistas clamoring to channel their inner blonde babe Betty or vixen brunette Veronica. Suffice to say, the event was a big success as stocks of the Archie Girls collection were quickly selling out by the dozens!
The line features a comprehensive makeup range that consists of eyeshadows, blush, lipsticks, lip gloss, and pigment pots with color palettes that are associated with their respective Archie Girl. Betty Cooper’s line features a softer look in pastel shades of pink, coral, and peach tones, while Veronica Lodge’s line leans more towards an edgier vibe done in cooler reds, purples, and blues. Whether you’re Team Betty or Team Veronica, you’re sure to get a modern Fifties vibe with these fabulous babies.
The organizers of the launch made good with the updated Fifties theme that is reminiscent of classic Archie Comics. Present at the event were three gorgeous models who were stylishly in character as the star love triangle of Archie, Betty, and Veronica. Elsewhere, the Activity Center was flocked with a black-clad army of fierce makeup artists, together with 50s-era diner waiters who served up delicious refreshments and jitterbug dancers who really livened up the scene with their flashy dance moves to catchy old-school jukebox pop music. The invitees were personally treated to on-site makeovers courtesy of the new limited-edition M.A.C. collection and had the chance to strike a pose with Archie, Betty, and Veronica which will undoubtedly be sent to their social media profiles for nostalgia and style bragging rights.
Philippine TV and media personality, Bianca Gonzales, was spotted at the launch as she graced her fabulous presence there together with one of the top makeup artists in the country, Jigs Mayuga, who personally did her makeup live at the gathering. Yours truly had a fun photo-op (see photos below!) with the lovely Bianca and even had a brief chat about her endorsement with M.A.C. Cosmetics. She says that she was not able to make it to the sister Manila event due to her hectic work schedule, but was thankful that she was able to catch the one here in the Queen City of the South.
Bianca adds that she has always been a longtime M.A.C. fan, and with the latest line released, she feels more in tune with Betty Cooper. No surprises there, given that she is viewed by her fans and admirers as the perky and approachable girl-next-door much like Betty herself.
Overall, the event was a huge success, and given the reliability and strong brand recognition of M.A.C. Cosmetics among hardcore beautyphiles everywhere, I’m pretty sure that their future releases and launching events will be as successful as this one. Big shoutout to the M.A.C. team and the event organizers for pulling off this kick-ass launch of the Betty + Veronica line, and keep on ringing up those cash registers for more sold-out receipts!
